Neuropsychoanalysis: Theoretical and Clinical Lessons

Mark Solms, a pioneer in neuropsychanalysis and a most engaging lecturer, offers an immersion into the cutting-edge field of neuropsychoanalysis. He begins with a presentation of a radical reformulation of the id based on knowledge of brain function, a reconceptualization of repression based on the nature of memory consolidation and a modification of instinct theory derived from contemporary knowledge of drives and instincts. The second day continues with implications of these findings for psychotherapy. Topics covered will include, the role of the conscious id, why people suffer from feelings, the meaning of symptoms, the tasks of psychoanalytic treatment, and how countertransference, transference interpretations and working through contribute to the therapeutic process.
